Title: Bus Drivers
Location: LISD Auxiliary Service
Description: Drives a school bus and transports regular and special education students safely to and from school.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES:
Drive a school bus on an established route to transport students to and from schools; picks-up and drops-off students as scheduled: may transport to and from locations other than schools; administer the student discipline program relating to school buses, and prepare discipline reports as necessary
Assist special education students as needed in boarding and exiting the bus and getting into and out of their seats safely and securely; operate door mechanisms, seat belts, wheelchair lifts equipment, wheelchair tie-downs and other special equipment
Perform and record daily safety checks on the bus and bus components and equipment: perform minor maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure safe and efficient operations
Prepare daily and monthly reports of operations and activities
Attend in-service and training meetings as scheduled
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 days per year

BEGINNING DATE: Immediately

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

LOCATION: LISD Auxiliary Service

Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED
Three years experience as a commercial vehicle driver
Valid CDL class B license and Texas school bus driver certification

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Good knowledge of bus handling and safety techniques
Good knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules, regulations, and of local street and road systems
Some knowledge of the policies, procedures, methods, techniques and equipment involved in transporting and caring for special education students
Ability and skill to safely drive a school bus
Ability and willingness to assist special education students being transported to and from school
Ability to keep even temper in difficult circumstances
Ability to maintain effective control over students during transit and to ensure that student’s behavior is not distracting to safe driving
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and school officials
Ability to follow directions and complete forms and reports
